DRAIL September Blog Post

👸🏾DRAIL Ribbon Cutting: When my good friend Barry Smith and Executive Director for the disability resource agency for independent living , text me late one night about celebrating the opening of a new DRAIL location, I said yes immediately!

Barry asked if I could come and speak and share our story. I could not have been more thrilled for the opportunity. Not only has DRAIL played an instrumental role in assisting me with my own start-up, Barry is also my friend, sponsor and mentor. Jeff , administrator for DRAIL, urged Barry to insist I run for Ms. Wheelchair California 2018 after I initially said no! It's safe to say I owe the DRAIL family a lot!

The turnout for the DRAIL open house was beyond our expectations.

We had a packed house and could not have been happier that so many came out and learned about all the services DRAIL provides our community. However, if you’re familiar with the mission of DRAIL then it’s no wonder so many came out to speak about the work DRAIL has done to improve their lives as well as honor Barry. Barry has been an advocate for disability rights for over two decades. It was beautiful to see him honored with so many awards and to hear the testimony of the impact his work has had on our community. I could not be happier to call this man my good friend. Congratulations Barry, I’m looking forward to our projects together!
